Internet Alliance organized the Malaysia Internet Business Summit 2018 at MaGIC building, Cyberjaya, Malaysia on 15th November 2018.

The theme for the event was “Digital Technology, Future Is Now”.

It’s an honor to be able to share the same stage with many of the established industry players.

I think I am the only “crypto guy” who shared a little bit about Blockchain in the event. The organizer actually reminded me (in a very polite way) that “you are not talking about cryptocurrency right? ….” kinda thing before confirming the slot for the event.

Yes, that normal “Blockchain is good, crypto is bad” perception. Anyhow, I do choose the topic “Blockchain In Supply Chain”, and made a little bit of introduction to Crypto Valley Malaysia Association which I co-founded to promote the tech movement to the country and the world.

Blockchain In Supply Chain – Dreams vs Reality

While transparency, traceability and trust are all the good element the blockchain technology promise to deliver, we still have to match those elements with real world business model and operating cases.

The reality of data policy according to country, stakeholders collaboration when it comes to implementation, and the data that we are collecting and feed into the system, are some of the real world challenges we need to face and tackle.

It might not be an easy job before we see the real killer apps in the supply chain when in comes to blockchain implemntation, but how hard can that be?

Whatever the mind can conceive it can achieve

It is nice that the organizer hosted us the speakers a very good dinner after the day long event.

Thank you and wish you all a blessed and blissful journey in pursuing your dreams.

It was an honor to be invited as one of the speaker in Malaysia Internet Business Summit 2018, organized by Internet Alliance.

We made a little bit introduction about Crypto Valley Malaysia, clearing the air of misunderstanding the word crypto.

We also take the chance to mention a bit about the reason we setup Crypto Valley Association Malaysia.

Before going further into the topic of the session, an introduction to the whole technology movement is a must. That is, a century of technology innovation, by briefing into these questions:

  1. What is blockchain?
  2. What can we do with blockchain?
  3. Where are we now?
  4. Where are we heading?
  5. Where do we want to go indeed?

Blockchain In The Supply Chain, Reality vs Dreams

Bitcoin is the buzz word, blockchain is the hype. There are still lots more to do before we can see the real impact.

The first Blockchain 101 Training was held at Cyberjaya on 28th July 2018. It was Blockchain Academy Asia’s first training on Blockchain with Crypto Forensic module.

It was an honor to be able to share the same training ground with industry experts and friends from Crypto Valley Malaysia‘s ecosystem.

Shared the same content during MBLBC Oval Debate, Kuala Lumpur back in April 2018, only this time it took around 2 hours with more explanation.

Did some explanation on the database design as well, which can be found on sample chapter, page 18 of the book Blockchain Insider here

Touched a little bit about the Money Flower as well, where the diagram was shown in Central Bank-Issued Digital Currency (CBDC) Is Well On Its Way.

Quoted from Wikipedia

Monetary sovereignty is the power of the state to exercise exclusive legal control over its currency, broadly defined, by exercise of the following powers:

1) Legal tender – the exclusive authority to designate the legal tender forms of payment.

2) Issuance and retirement – the exclusive authority to control the issuance and retirement of the legal tender.

The sheriffs are coming to the wild wild west, with loads of big guns and their lawyers or regulators.

Our crypto forensic expert Fazliq Iirfan shared with the audience how to use public domain such as Blockchain.info to trace the flow of Bitcoin and Etherscan to track Ether’s flow.

Iirfan also made a sharing on how to do a due diligence on ICO projects.

We had a great session on the first training program. Thank you Blockchain Academy Asia and our participants from a few countries – USA, Canada, Japan, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore.

One of my Australian friends once told me that he had never seen any government as helpful as the Malaysian government when it comes to developing the tech industry (though the people here are in the midst of deciding who will be the next mandate in Putrajaya)

Indeed, it is true to some extent that we have MaGIC, MDEC, MiGHT, MIDA, DFTZ, MCMC etc in place.

And today, we are here at MaGIC HQ, with people from MDEC dropping by, and others from financial industry (such as VC, underwriter etc), institutional people such as rep from The National Sandbox@MaGIC, and tech people sitting together in a Technical Requirements Workshop organized by myNEF (New Entrepreneurs Foundation), discussing on the possibilities and opportunities of developing the technical part of ACO (Accredited Coin Offering) platform as a Social Investment into the future of digital currency and crypto-economy, something to keep the ICO market self-regulated and healthy.

Beyond coin minting and liquidity capability.

What would it take in order to put a complex system in place?

ACO Technical Requirements Workshop by MyNEF

The workshop started around 9.30 a.m. with Lilyana Latiff, CEO of MyNEF (New Entrepreneurs Foundation) giving a brief intro about MyNEF and the foundation’s masterplan for 2018/19.  MyNEF believes that startups can grow fast and be sustainable by harnessing knowledge and technology.

Ted Huang, The Father of Fintech Economy and Board Advisor of Yang Braxter, shared his view on how Blockchain technology is changing the face of the world today and gave an in-depth introduction to the ACO platform.

ACO – Accredited Coin Offering

MaGIC – Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Center

MaGIC, Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre is the the catalyst for creativity and innovation for entrepreneurs, positioning Malaysia as the startup capital of Asia.

Porsche is exploring Blockchain apps in its vehicles in cooperation with the Berlin-based startup XAIN. Possible applications for Blockchain technology range from locking and opening car doors via an app, with the possibility for temporary access authorization, to new and improved business models through encrypted data logging. Porsche also stated that Blockchain technology could be applied in further improving the safety and capabilities of driverless cars.

German Ingolstadt-based car manufacturer Audi is testing Blockchain technology for its physical and financial distribution processing. With its new solution, Audi aims to increase the security and transparency in its global supply chains. The car manufacturer released a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) of its Blockchain system last year, after successfully testing the technology based on Hyperledger Fabric. Due to positive feedback, Audi’s management decided to advance the project beyond the PoC stage.

Germany-headquartered car manufacturing giant Daimler AG, famous for its Mercedes-Benz and Smart brands, presented its own Blockchain-based digital currency MobiCoin at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona.

BMW, another German car manufacturer has allegedly closed a second partnership with a Blockchain startup, this time to source ethical cobalt for its products.

Volkswagen (VW) has announced a cooperation agreement with the IOTA Foundation, with plans to potentially incorporate blockchain technology into the autonomous driving initiatives of the German car giant which owns Lamborghini.

Dubai’s transport authority has revealed plans to create a vehicle lifecycle management system using Blockchain as part of the Dubai 10X initiative. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the project seeks to improve customer experience by providing a vehicle history from the manufacturer all the way to the scrap yard. In other words, buyers and sellers will be able to track where the vehicle is in its lifecycle.

What’s cooking here in Malaysia?

A Visit to MAI – Malaysia Automotive Institute

We made a visit to MAI (Malaysia Automotive Institute) in Cyberjaya on 30th March 2018, to discuss Blockchain technology and the possibilities on how the automotive industry can apply it from policy and regulation’s point of views.

We met Dato Madani Sahari, the CEO of MAI, who is very open-minded and far-sighted, shown from how he was able to interpret and explain the concepts to his colleagues during the meeting. MAI’s Assistant GM from Strategic Division, Mohd Sharulnizam bin Sarip also provided us a lot of useful points to ponder with his comments and feedbacks. We have quite a fruitful meeting with all the nice people from MAI who joined the briefing.

Effendy Zulkifly, founder of BCRC (Blockchain Research Center) Malaysia gave a good presentation on how Blockchain can play a role in the automotive industry.

This was an exciting and great meet up with MAI’s team. From left, representing BCRC Malaysia’s chapter, Effendy Zulkifly, How Tze, Dr. Andi from Indonesia, and Amir from AGA Group.

MAI’s Electric Car

Met this cutie on our way back. The electric car is charging outside the parking area.
