Attended an event by Bloomberg Live in Singapore on the 4th and 5th of September, 2019.

Networking Dinner

There was a warm welcome networking dinner prior to the event.

Sooner Than You Think Conference

It’s always a good thing to start the day with a nice cup of coffee. Thanks to Bettr Barista for keeping that sleepy away.

Forget sooner than you think, the future is already here.

That’s the opening statement by Haslinda Amin, Chief International Correspondent for Southeast Asia, Bloomberg Television as she delivers the welcoming remarks.

AI has been around for decades, what makes it more viable today is our ability to better marshal data resources.

Just watch this space and hold back in judgement.

As what S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information, Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Republic of Singapore put it:

Somewhere between dystopia and utopia there is a place for us.

From Unicorn to Decacorn

The session around 12.10pm on 5th Sept saw the appearance of Jeffrey Perlman – Managing Director, Head of Southeast Asia, Warburg Pincus, and Andre Soelistyo (President, Gojek) on stage in conversation with Yoolim Lee, Reporter, Asia Technology, Bloomberg.

The session profile Gojek’s next stage of growth and find out how one of their investors – Warburg Pincus – is helping the evolution.

Seems like it only took Gojek a few years time to reach the status of Decacorn.

And they are on the path for Super App.

What matters most for a unicorn to become a decacorn?

A) Vision
B) Execution
C) Capital
D) Culture
E) Product / Market fit
F) Luck

The majority from the floor voted Execution as the key factor, which was echoed by both Andre Soelistyo (President, Gojek) and Jeffrey Perlman (Managing Director, Head of Southeast Asia, Warburg Pincus – one of Gojek’s investors).

#Execution.

When you have to fight with the world’s best of the best, maintain the largest balance sheet to become the largest payment solutions company in Indonesia.

A Decacorn company from South East Asia where the founders build it because they want to create #impact for the little guys.

#Gojek #UniquelyIndonesia #Food #Stickiness #Captive #Bloomberg #STYT #TheFutureOf

Passion

Be it the sharing from Harriet Green, CEO and Chairman of IBM Asia Pacific, or the sharing from Andre Soelistyo, President of Gojek, one thing in common is that they are both passionate about what they are doing.

It’s nice to have the chance to catch up with Rennie Sng from Crypto Valley Singapore as well.

Inevitably, in most of the panelist sessions, two of the most brought up matters are the US-China trade war and the recent Jack MA-Elon Musk debate on AI.

All in all, this event is more on AI & Data, with a little bit touching on Connectivity (a specific session on Cyber Security) and Ethics in AI. There is definitely something to watch out for as AI and Blockchain makes a perfect match.

Thank you Bloomberg Live for organizing such a great event.

Thank you Conrad Centennial Singapore for the warm hosting. See you guys again elsewhere.

Made a visit to Advanced Analytics Engineering Centre (AAEC), Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, UiTM Shah Alam on 8th August, 2019 morning.

An interesting point of discussion was how the emerging tech jobs such as Youtuber or Instagrammer was not included in the curriculum of “conventional” educational institution, but rather the street smart generation are doing good with professional works in such areas as e-commerce traders, net celebrities etc.

Shared a little bit about a century of technology innovation from one of the slide of presentation file below:

Also the important of educational institution to train enough human capital for the progress of the nation through advancement of technology, such as the automotive industry by itself, specifically the field of Blockchain and The Automotive Industry.

Get to know these professors during the meeting:

Prof. Dr Rehana,
Prof. Dr Yap Bee Wah,
Prof. Dr Norjansalika Janom,
Prof. Dr Fakhrul Hazman, Community Chair of C.O.D.E.R (Community for Distributed Ledger), where they focus on
Blockchain,
Mining in Blockchain,
Distributed Ledger,
Fintech applications in Distributed Ledger,
Distributed Ledger Technology and applications,
Public permissioned, public permission-less, private, consortium based blockchain,
Related technology on storage, consensus etc.

Interesting to pass by the Big Data Lab where the students were having Machine Learning training.

It was a sunny morning on 22nd October 2018 as we made a trip to DOSM – Department of Statistics Malaysia.

We would be having a briefing on a UN SDG Blueprint Development project with the team at DOSM.

The Generic Statistical Business Process Model was referred to United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Ver 5.0, 2013.

1. Specify Needs
2. Design
3. Build
4. Collect
5. Process
6. Analyse
7. Disseminate
8. Evaluate

Project kick off session at DOSM, Putrajaya Malaysia to prepare the blueprint for the development of a national SDG Data Monitoring Dashboard.

BDAP – Blockchain Data Aggregation Platform

The value added feature would be using blockchain technology to build a Blockchain Data Aggregation Platform (BDAP).

The Blockchain Data Aggregation Platform (BDAP) is an incentivised data exchange utilising the blockchain for authentication and authorisation of data providers that are publishing data to DOSM, an incentivisation model for data providers to gain tokens for sharing data.

Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice.

The details and full list of the Global Indicator Framework can be found at
https://unstats.un.org/sdgs/indicators/indicators-list/

In the Executive Summary of Eleventh Malaysia Plan (2016-2020), it was also mentioned that:

Malaysia has continuously embraced sustainable development in the national agenda. In this regard, the commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda) has been mapped with the Eleventh Plan to align strategies and initiatives to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The first phase of a roadmap is being developed to provide guidance for the smooth implementation of the 17 SDGs. The roadmap takes into account the nation’s capacities and capabilities in achieving the identified goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda.

SDG Analytics System will be developed by local company CNOPSIS Group.
